STOP WEIGHING YOURSELF!!!

March 10, 2017

Since childhood we've used the dreaded SCALES IN THE BATHROOM to measure our weight.

Why? Because we've always been told this is the most accurate way of measuring yourself....but is it?

The short answer is a big 'fat' NO. The longer answer is this...

There's thousands of different things that make up the incredibly complex and fascinating human body.

So how can a simple step on the scales, measure all of these things at once???

Without going into too much detail, here are a few of the most important things in the human body that the scales have no way of detecting:

Bone Density

We all have different bone densities. If you're someone who lifts heavy weights during workouts on a regular basis, then your bones will be a lot stronger and weigh a lot more than a... runner for example, or someone who doesn't exercise.

Organs

All of our organs weigh different amounts and can really vary in size from one person to the next. Having heavier organs doesn't mean you're overweight does it? ...of course not.

Water and Food Storage

We all store water and food differently, in fact healthier people can sometimes store water and food for longer periods as their bodies work more efficiently.

This all comes down to your metabolism and your metabolic type (mentioned in my latest newsletter).

Long distance runners, for example, are usually very slim and lean, but their bodies can adapt to storing water and food for longer periods to help them get through a long run.

An overweight person may store food as fat, but they usually can't store water very well.

Again, there's no way the scales can detect all of this!

Muscle vs Fat

No matter what you've been told, muscle DOES NOT weigh more than fat.

A pound of fat is the same as a pound of muscle, the difference?

...the volume of the muscle will be less than the volume of the fat.

The MOST IMPORTANT THING when it comes to measuring your progress to see if you've lost or gained body mass, is... (drum roll)... MEASUREMENTS

It is ALL about volume and not weight when it comes to body mass.

Another important aspect of this is confidence, weighing yourself can ruin your confidence... and lets face it, it's all about confidence.

I've only highlighted a few areas of the body here that the scales cannot detect, there are loads more!
